Lorenzo Valdevit is a Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at the University of California, Irvine, where he directs the Architected Materials lab. His primary research goal is the optimal design, modeling, fabrication and characterization of mechanical metamaterials with unprecedented combination of properties.
Lorenzo is also the inaugural director of the Institute for Design and Manufacturing Innovation (IDMI) in the Samueli School of Engineering. Founded in 2005, IDMI has the overarching goal of establishing UCI as a national leader in advanced manufacturing, through research, education and outreach.
